Dark and chilly in some places, but everywhere at Villa Ardore filled with warmth and light, December is a great month to spend time relaxing by the fireplace, find the perfect present, wander a holiday market and feast on local Tuscan delicacies.
If you like the idea of exploring local markets don’t miss the ‘Mercato del Campo’ in Piazza delCampo in Siena. Dating back to the Middle Ages it is one of the region's largest markets with over 100 stalls selling crafts and the best local eats and wine. Keep an eye out too for the presepe vivente, the live nativity play, that you can find in several piazzas throughout the region.
Welcome the new year in happy company, sharing beautiful good intentions and the traditional cotechino and lentils for good luck - accompanied of course by an excellent glass of red wine.
